Ella Emhoff is best known as the stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris. But beyond her family’s political role, the 20-something is carving out a name for herself in the fashion industry. She made headlines in early 2021 with her Inauguration Day look, a plaid Miu Miu coat and wine-red Batsheva dress. Shortly after, she took her budding modeling career to new heights, signing with IMG Models. That spring, she graduated from the Parsons School of Design, where she studied fine arts, apparel, and textiles. She’s since launched a knitwear line, debuted a presentation at New York Fashion Week, and launched a knitting club.
These days, Emhoff can also be found front row at fashion shows, if not walking the runway, as she did at Coach’s spring/summer 2025 presentation during New York Fashion Week. At industry events, Emhoff’s style skews far more fashion girl than political royalty. She skips the shift dresses and skirt suits in favor of funky silhouettes and androgynous accessories. It’s a refreshing change of pace and a fitting one for someone dubbed “the first daughter of Bushwick.”
Ahead, find her eight best looks.

For her DNC dress, Emhoff tapped designer Joe Ando, who got his start on TikTok. It featured an off-the-shoulder top, a structured blue bodice, and a white tulle skirt. As a designer herself, it was fitting that Emhoff chose to elevate an emerging designer rather than tapping an established brand.

For the 2021 Met Gala, which celebrated American fashion, Emhoff wore a Stella McCartney bodysuit made of diamonds and mesh with matching trousers and sneakers. Describing her look to the New York Times, Emhoff said: “I’m someone who’s really passionate about comfort…Even though this is the Met, everyone is allowed to still feel comfortable in their own skin, their own style.”
Emhoff also mentioned wanting to work with a designer who aligned with her vision “creatively and morally.” McCartney was fitting given her commitment to sustainable and cruelty-free production practices.
